JANUARY 2014 MONTH IN REVIEW
I am taking a new approach to blogging. My goal is approaching the posts from a weekly basis that way I don't get overwhelmed while I try to finish setting up my music production company. What I have wanted to do for a long time though is a Month in Review category. This is the first post. January 2014 I experienced a huge losing slide this month. I made a mistake on one hand (for a thousand bucks) and it snowballed into a $4350 loss over the course of the next 5 sessions. I was on tilt. My bankroll dipped below 30k and that was another source of stress for me. I have these 5K benchmarks that make me feel better or worse depending upon whether I'm going up or going down. Fortunately I turned it all around by calming down and re-focusing. I actually had to tell my myself out loud "remember that I'm a winning player and I am finally rolled correctly for the game I'm playing in. I can take a hit." When you are getting crushed you have to remember to look on the bright side of life. You don't actually know when it's going to end. Gamblers need a way to cope with losing that doesn't make you more anxious than what you already are. I remembered playing on a short bankroll for the past 3 years and how I used to panic when shit went downhill. I would hyperventilate and start tripping, or just shut down and watch movies all day. I calmed myself down by remembering if I had the bankroll then that I have now I would have never been in those spots. I know I play well enough to beat the game. Checking out the stats for the month. I ended up earning 7,340 with an average return of 430 bucks a session. That translates to $52 a hour and my average session was 8 hours. My best win was a Saturday session when I made close to 4 grand and my worst loss was a Saturday when I lost 2 grand. Turns out Saturdays are hit or miss I guess. 32 hours a week though, that's not bad. Add in 15 minutes travel time each way and I guess I'm approaching a little less than a normal work week. The cool thing is that it's spread over 7 days of the week and most importantly, it's when I want to go to work. I wound up making almost $9500 straight at the end of the month. It's interesting cuz if I would adhere to my stop-loss policy and quit when I get stuck $500 I probably would've made over 10k for the month. But I have no discipline (it is what it is). Obviously this is a good month. If I can do this for a year we would be talking 96k a year, which is getting way ahead of myself but still the goal.
